SURF LIFE-SAVING.

CANTERBURY TEAM NOMINATED,

A well-attended meeting of the Canterbury Surf Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. last night, over which Mr Claude Cooper presided.

Tho secretary reported that the scheme of holding the competitions for the Ray Blank Cup, the Benson Shield, and the Sumner Cup had been a great success. There was _ a largo attendance at the competition, which was held at North Beach. A letter was received from the New Brighton Surf Club suggesting that the joint competition bo held, in future, later in the season, and preferably on a Sunday. It was thought that this step would create greater interest in life-saving and surf work. The matter was held over to be dealt with at a later date.

The Koyal Life-Saving Society wrote stating that at the last meeting of the Canterbury Head Centre a letter received from the Taranaki Head Centre was considered. The letter stated that the Taranaki Centre had decided to hold the Nelson Shield competition on February 19th, and the Fourman Championship on the 17th. Tho Society understood that none of the clubs was financially able to send a team, but that it was probable that, if the necessary finance was forthcoming, a Canterbury representative team would be available. The total cost of sending a team Would be well over £4O. A committee had been elected to act in the selection and dispatch of a Canterbury team. Discussion followed, and it was decided that a team under Mr H. S. Feast, who was appointed instructor, be sent to compete in the Nelson Shield competition. Mr Norman McDowell was appointed deputyinstructor. , The following were nominated for membership in the Canterbury team: —J. Eales and A. Bolam (Sumner). D. P. Lindsay. S. Cookson, and A. C. C. (Taylor_s Mistake), A. Dalton D. Wilson, and R. Dawson (North Beach). E A. Owlet, B. Wilkinson, and M. Meiklo (Brighton).
