BAND MUSIC.

CONTEST TO BE HELD IN FEBRUARY, 1928. V

. A contest for,'both'' A and B ..grade bands is to,be held in Christcliurch during-February of next year. This was decided on at a meeting of thoso'keehly. interested in bands, held, last evening. . •

A preliminary meeting was,held last week, when those present formed themselves into the nucleus of a committee. Mr H. P. Herbert presided at .last night's meeting, and others present were Messrs J. H. JJerrie, L. C. Felin, F. L. Eastgate, O. L. Jones, T. F. Hall, H. Sweeney, A. M.; Payne, W. G. Brass, and Captain Hoare. "If .the contest is> anything like the last one which was Jield in 1924, wo shall be very well satisfied," said the chairman. Officers were . elected as. follows: Chairman, Mr H. F. Herbert; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. G. Braßs; assistant treasurer, Mr 0. L. Jones; committee, Messrs T. Andrews,, jun., T. Hopkins, 0. L. Jones, L. Gunner, L. Oakes, F.L. Woledge, C. Haigh, F. L. Eastgate, C. Taylor, J. H. Mcrrie, K. More,. T. F. Hall, E. Francis, P. E. Climic, L. C. Fenn, A. M. Payne, H. Hobbs, If, Sweeney, E. A. Home, H. F. Herbert, F. E. Shaw, and Captain Hoare. The secretary stated that £2OO was on deposit in the bank from the last contest, and it was decided to ask the bank to release the money, £IOO to be placed in thb Savings Bank, and the balance to be transferred to a:working account in the bank. A definite date for the holding of the contest was held over in the meantime, and it was decided to- approach the public for guarantees, subject to receiving a permit from the South Island Bands' Association.

The- question of including C grade bands in the contest was held over in the meantime.
