EVIDENCE AT TRIAL

The former Secretary of the Navy, Edwin Denby, testified at the trial of Albert Fall, formor Secretary of the Interior, and Edward Doheny, oil magnate, that he took the responsibility of tho Elk Hills lease and Poarl Harbour contracts because ho was advised that the Naval Oil Lands of California were boing drained by private wells near the rim - . * ii Asked by the prosecuting counsel who made the contracts, Denby said, "I did it whether I wanted to or not." Denby declared that he urged the latePresident Harding to issue an order transferring naval reserves to the Interior Department, and solicited tho cooperation of the Secretary, Albert Fall. Thereon, Denby said, Fall stated that ho had all he could handle, but would be glad to do what he could.
