PAPANUI BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION.
The first annual meeting of the Papanui Beautifying Asßooiation was held last night, Mr E. Egglestoa presiding. The annual report showed that the Association had a firm footing in the district, hav r ing a membership of 33. An appeal for funds waß sent out last winter, in order that the unemployed of Papanui might be assisted, by employing them on beautifying work in the district, but it had not met with a' very ready response. Although handi-' capped to a large extant by lack of funds,, they could congratulate themselves on the work already accomplished. The Association were greatly indebted to Mr J. M. Baxter, who very generously gave alline trees and shrubs for the tramway loop. Ihey were also successful in getting the City Council to lease a part of the railway yard as a reserve. This spot had been very untidy, but in the near future they.hoped to make it one of the beauty spots of Papanui. Although they had made gratifying progress, much still remained to be done. The report was adopted. . The following officers were elected:—President, Mr E. Eggieston; committee Messrs P. Grubb, A. Scdman. J. Joyce,. A. Fletcher, J. Hoffman, T. H. Gates, C. McCrostie, W. Bavnes, C. Hawker, and H. Tiltaan; secretary, Mr J. Sturrock; auditor, Mr W. Baynes. .
