(Received Jnoo 38rd, 7.15 p.m.)
MELBOURNE, June 23,
At the inquest cm the Caulfield railvray smash, a witness gave evidence that ho saw the whole accident from the platform. He said the Oakleigh train's speed was about 16 miles an hour and when the brakes were applied they reduced it by half. The noise of the brakes was greater then that of the actual crash, yet they seemed to be taking little effect.
The train wheels appeared to be locked and the train seemed to skid into the Corrum train.
Visibility was clear, but the ground was wet.
Further evidence showed that when the signals were tested after the accident, they operated satisfactorily.
