RANGIORA. At a meeting of the committee of the North Canterbury Football Club, held on Tuesday night, it was decided to accept the invitation to visit Akaroa and play a friendly game with the local club on Saturday. Owing to a number of players not beinc,' able to make the trip, a mixed team of players from tbe senior B and third grade will be nicked. A dance has been arranged tor tbe visitors, and on Sunday nioruing they will be taken for a trip down tho harbour. It has also been arranged thai another team picked from the. senior B and third grade players will play a friendly game at Sefton on Saturday with the North Canterbury Sub-Union Juniors. A fifth grade friendly gamo between Loburn and North Canterbury will bo played on No. 1 ground, Rangiora, on Saturday. The entries for the North Canterbury Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Club's annual show, to be held on July 2nd and 3rd, are as follows, last year's figures being in parentheses:—Poultry 418 (472), pigeons 51 (4o), canaries 21 (21), fancy work and art 94 (42), roots, ■vegetables, and preserves 94 (CC), cookery, eggs, and honey 30 (27), cats 32 (28); total, 7-10 (701). KAIAPOI. In connexion with the. proposal to erect a new school at Kaiapoi, Dr Telford, District Medical Officer of Health, made an inspection of the present school yesterday afternoon, and will submit his report to the School Committee. It is understood that h.l'3 report will bo favourable to the erection of a new school. Mr G, £. Aitken (chairman) and Mr W. U. Stark, of the School Committee, left for Wellington last night to interview tho Hon. 11. A. Wright, Minister for Education, with reference to the proposed new school. Yesterday afternoon an eight-roomed house situated on the Tuabiwi road, and owned by Mr J. O'Neill, was completely destroyed by fire. M r O'Neill left tho houso last week to reside in Kaiapoi, and alterations were being carried out. Tho carpenters were working at the back of tho houso at tho time of the outbreak, but the fire, which started in the front, had a good hold before it waß noticed. The house was' insured in the State Fire Insurance Office for £OOO. TSALCAIRN. At a meeting of bachelors aud spjnsters, hold in the hall on Tuesday evening, Mr N. Kelcher presided over a good attendance. Miss E. Park was elected secretary. It was decided to hold a bachelors' and spinsters' ball on July 22nd. ASHLEY BANK. The annual meeting of subscribers to the Ashley Public Library was held on Tuesday evening in the school, Mr B. Collie presiding. The balancesheet was read and adopted. Tho 6um of £5 had been spent on new books, seventeen of which were placed on the shelves last week. It was decided to ask all subscribers to. bring in all tho books before June 30th, when the library will' bo closed for fourteen days, durjng which time the books will be 'catalogued. Mr R. Cpllie was reelected chairman and Mr W. Meyer Ijbrariap, secretary, and treasurer. All ■subscriptions for the ensuing year will commence from July Ist. / Op" Tuesday evening the weekly enchre tournament was held in the school. There was a good attendance. Mrs R. Peach and P O'Connor gained 23 points. Mrs R. Peach won the play-off. The men's prize was won by Mr F. Timms, with 25 points. Prizes were given by the School Com mittee. North and South Loburn combiped have challenged- Ashley to a euchre match to be held shortly. The senior basket-ball team have obtained permission from the School Committee for the use of the school pitch. SOUTHBROOK. There was a record attendance at tbe weekly euchre tournament conducted by the Southbrook Hall Committee. The prizes were won by Mrs F. Shepherd and Mr S. Devlin. The most interesting game of hockey played this year was witnessed on Saturday between Trinity and Southbrook on tiia local ground Although Southbrook ran out winners by 4 goals to 1, it was by no means a ruuaway victory, as the Port girls played with plenty of dash, aud in the last ten minutes had their opponents practically bottled up, but did not notch a goal. With stronger backs the Trinity team would be a tough proposition. Tho victory of the local girls was due mostly to their superior combination, especially in the forward line, and they employed this to advantage. Tho scorers for Southbrook were Misses M Meyer 2. and P. and I. Peed 1 goal each. The best plavers for the side wero Mrs Withers, and Misses M. Meyer, M. Seed, and A. Archer. WEEDONS. The sixth of a series of progressive euchre socials was held in tho Weedons Schoolroom. There was a very large attendance and an enjoyable time was spent. Tho winners of the prizes were: Ladies': Miss D. Phillips Ist, Mrs J. Allison 2ud; men: Mr R Fiulay Ist* Mr J. Hampton 2nd. After the games were over supper was handed round. TEMPLETON. A very successful and enjoyable cotir cert in aid of St. Saviour's Church, Templeton, was held in the Oddfellows' Hall last week. Th,o vicar presided over a good attendance. The following Jadies and gentlemen contributed items: hisses Nap'pcr, Frances McCaw, Nelson, Prince, Archdeacon Taylor, Kcv. F. It. Rawle, Messrs Lusson, Woodward, iind ColviJlo. Mr Uristow also played somo soft toned melodies on tho bells. During tho interval opportunity was taken by tho members of the congregation, and friends to make a presentation to tho vicar and Mrs Rawlo, who are leaving .the district shortly. Archdeacon Taylor 6poke of tho impending departure of the vicar, and also his musical abilities, at tho same time announcing his appointment as precentor of the Chriatchurch Cathedral. Mr \U. Johnston (people's warden) was i unable to be present through illness. Mr E- Davison (Bishop's warden) in a brief speech paid a high tribute to the vicar for his constant devotion to his duty, his sterling character, and for his earnest efforts in helping to wipe o(7 tho debt incurred before his coming into tho parish. He then hanided him a wajjet of notes 03 a small recognition of his work, aud best wishes for the future. Archdeacon Taylor then presented Mrs Rawle with a beautiful cutglass bottle of porfmno. M r W. E. Mulcock (lay reader) expressed his groat pleasure at being present, and the high esteem in which he held Mr Rawle. The vicar replying on behalf of his wife and himself, thanked aD for their gifts and kind wishes, and for the cordial relations that existed among the people of the Templeton district. Ho urged tho congreeation to rally round and help his successor in every possible way. Tho proceedings closed with the singing of the National Anthem The ladies of the congregation provided supper for* the performers.
