FIRE AT HASTINGS
(rKESS 1880CIATIOH TELEGRAM.) HASTINGS, Juno 23. Early this morning an eight-roomed ] residence in Duke street, owned and i occupied by Mr Guy Eochfort, was de-1 stroyed by fire. I The brigade svas handicapped by the • distance from the main water supply, and consequently, the pressure nfc the end of 1900 feet of hose was negligible, but the firemen saved the outbuildings. The Rnchforts escaped in their clothes. Practically all tlio furniture and contents were lost. The outbreak is attributed to a fire left in the diningroom and probably a defective chimney. The insurances on <he house are £2OOO, and on the contents £.500. Be prepared. See that you have adequate insurance on your house and furniture. Consult the Mercantile and General Insurance Co Ltd , Hereford street It is a local company with all its capita) infested in New Zealand, therefore prompt settlement. —<s
