"FATHER OF THE GUARDS." (w cable—press association—coptbiosb.) (AUBTBALIAN AHO K.Z. CABLE . ASSOCIATION.) London, June 20. The newspapers give prominence to the faet that to-morrow is the hundredth birthday of Sir George Higginsoa, "Father of the Guards," and last survivor of the band of heroic rescuers of the Guards' colours at Inkerman. He indulges in walkß daily, and often visits London on business. He reads without spectacles, and writes all his own letters. [General Sir George Higginson joined the Grenadier Guards as an Ensign in 1845, and served in the same regiment for a period of 30 years. He was with it daring the whole of the Crimean "W r, and was twice promoted for service in,*the field. He commanded the Bri?ade of Guards and Home District from 879 to 1884, and was Lieutenant-Gov-ernor of the Tower of London from 2888 to 1893, when he retired.)
