Murray (Braemar)' en route for a holiday., i'u Suva. High Schools Board. The monthly meeting of the Timaru High Schools Board was held yesterday, Mr J. Bitchencr,, M:P., presiding. . The • chairman made reference to ; the death of the late Mr -W..F.sChevertoit, who had been a member of tho board for a number of years, and a vpto of sympathy, with relatives was carried in .silence. ; . Continuing, the chairman expressed pleasure at tho way ; tho schools wero being conducted, and to see tho growth of the schools, which was: remarkable. The principals and respective ■ staffs were to bo congratulated on the work they were doing; -• Messrs Lyons, and Commander Deiinistoun having- been re-elec-ted. ..to' the- Board, they were welconied back by the chairman. Reference was also made by the;chairman.to the.plan of improvements to the grounds at the Girls' High School,; drawn, up by Mr D. N. Harper, and stated that Mr Harper was deserving of every credit for the trouble he ha.d gone to. .Mr Bitebener referred to the death of the late Town Clerk (Mr D. Virtue) stating that tho citizens '.had .-lost-a real friend. The 'Board carried a resolution of .sympathy in silence. The acting principal of tho Boys' High School (Mr E. A. Cockfoft) reported that the present' roll number was 346,. The contractor had commenced work in regard to the gymnasium by shifting the'armoury and. the .woodwork room. Mr Kelly had resigned in order to go t'o Taihape. The annual concert would bo held on July 22nd and 23rd. Referring to the gymnasium, Mr Cockroffc. said-that, tho school fund was' not in a particularly flourishing condition, but-after, the annual concert, they would, perhaps, be able to assist somewhat. Reference was also made by Mr Cockroft to the need of a now mower, tho present ono' : having dono service for 12 years. . The report was adopted, the matter of a mower -being left in'the hands, of tho Finance Committee. WOODBURY.
