Sir, —This move to acquire a part of tho Acclimatisation , Society's, ground for a Nurses' Home site appears to bo made by some City people in the inter- ' est'of tho-beauty, and lay-out •of the Citvpthat being tho ca.s«,. why should country ratepayers have to pay the \ major part of tho cost of thw piece of * land, as the- Hospital Board has sufficient suitable land of its own on which f ,to build the homo? It must be membered that the country districts i contribute two-thirds of the Hospital Board's levy. It appears as if the Domains Board are out to make a sub- \ stantial proEt out of the Hospital, Board by trying to collar a house the H.B, are to/pay for, whereas several country local bodies have, in addition to providing land for their local hospital buildings and paying the general hospital levy, to fiud up to a third or the cost of their district hospitals. ; As'there are twelve representatives of country districts on the H. 8., surely they are not going to lot .their ratepayers be bled in this maun*-, and they. Certainly should not agree to this apparent profit making proposal of. the Domains Board. It is well, knowp that the Domains Board have wanteds to get possession of the. Acclimatisation Societv's piece of land for a long while: I think the Hospital Board should proceed to build on the cabbage patch and leave the Domains Board standing high and dry.—Yours, etc., COUNTRY RATEPAYER,.
