SCOTTISH SOCIETY.
The monthly ceilidh of the Scottish Society was hold on Thursday in their rooms, Manchester street, when s large audience of members, families, and friends assembled, including many new arrivals from the Hameland. Chief J. S. Chisholm presided, assisted by his chieftains and council. PipeMajor J. S. Patterson opened with a selection on tho great Highland varpipe. The Chief extended a cordial welcome to all present, calling attention to several meetings. Four nominations for membership were read. The following musical and other items were rendered during the evening:—Selections by the Pipe Bond of the Society; songs by Messrs H. Smith, J. Grieve, A. McDonald, L Jewell, and Samson; quartet by Messrs Mizen, Purdie, Samson, and McLachlan; duet, Messrs Samson and Purdie; recitations by Miss Ngaire Hooper and Mr Bartlett; dances: Fling by six juvenile dancers of the society; International Reel, Misses Peddie, Chisholm. Bruce, and Neate; reel by the juveniles of the Society. The accompanists were Mrs A. Macquarrie and Messrs Johnson and Bryson. A hearty voto of thanks was accorded the performers for their items.
