DOG TRIALS.

ASHBURTON COLLIE CLUB. The Ashburton' Collie Dog Club'i trials were continued yesterday, under ideal clirnaiio conditions. There nu a good attendance in the morning and it increased as the day wore on. Keen intevest vat taken in the work of the varioUß dogs. Tho entries all through were good, but they would b»vo been still better but for the distemper epidemic which is at present being experienced in the district. During the luncheon adjournment, a pleasing function took place in the presentation to Mr James Henderson, ono of the oldest shepherds in Ashburton, of a eilvor-stuclded collar for his dog Nod, which bad taken charge of the sheep each day after they had done their, work in tho various competitions. Yesterday's results aro as follows: HUNTAWAY AND SLEW, about 300 yards. Five sheep. Time limit, 8 iniuutcs. E. Gneve's Bruce, 35 points .. ..1 G. Keith's Glen, 34 points .. ' .. 2 W. Pollock's Breezo, 38k points .. .. 3 W. Carney's Storm, S3 points .„. .. i . Eighteen dogs competed; Bruce hunted.to a good line to the. first pole, taking 2mm 17sec, but was inclined to keep t,po far off his sheep. TRIALS AT AKAROA. A number of dog trial enthusiasts provided n real good day's sport on Thursday when four competitions were held on a portion of Messrs P. G. Armstrong and T. Maseficld's properties v at Children's Bay, Akaroa. There was a very large crowd of intorosted spectators, and tho day was so successful that it is practically certain that a Dog Trial Club will bo formed in Akaroa. Competitors were present from most of the Bays and Little River. It was the original idea of tho committee to make' all events sweepstakes, half the amount to go to the winners, and the' other half to the Peninsula War Memorial Society. Tho prjze-winners Rave their prize-money to tho Society, and that body will therefore be enriched by about £ls, , Mesdames T. Masefield and W. H. Taylor (treasurer and secretary respectively), of the local branch of the Plnnket Society, conducted a tea stall during the day, and a fair sum of inoney was recoivod for tHiat Socioty. The committee who were responsible for the day's arrangements were Messrs T. Masefield, A. M. Helps, P. G. Armstrong, V. Kearney, W. H. Taylor,, and Justin Lelievre. The officials were: Judge, Mr W. Gray <Le Bon's Bay); judge's cleric Mr Roland Symes; timekeeper, .Mr Jf. G. Armstrong; flag steward, Mr F; W. Williams. Results were as follows: — HEADING.
