; The New Zealand Bugby Union .was; asked at. its meeting in Wellington' on Wednesday night for, a ruling op tho. Union's. attitude military • defaulters. Tho opinion .was expressed that a man who - shirks parades is no good for football, but that a distinction must, be made between him and the boy who shirks from sheer bravado. One member pointed out that tho civil law dealt with defaulters, and that it would be a mistake, for the Union to take action-as well, although on_ the other hand the military authorities had met the Union by-'arrang-ing. as far as possible that drills should not clash'with football matches. It was decided- that the Union should adhere to -its previous ruling that .those who shirked their duties in war-time should be ! debarred from playing, hot that ■ the eases of - drill • shirkers', should be dealt with on-their merits.-
