COMFORT IN CARS.
RECENT IMPROVEMENTS. A noticeable advance in the construction of four-seater cars centres in the care which has been taken to study the comforts of the rear passengers. All-weather equipment .. is • a "case in point. When this typo of car was m its infancy only.the driver mattered, the rear seat passengers .being regarded as of far less importance. 'No pams were spared to ensure a good view all round for the driver, but sometimes, tho rear passengers . were .ensconced within a sort ■of , tent-like structure which practically cut off their view of the surrounding country. . • To-day the four-seater equipped with celluloid .side screenr. is nearly equal in comfort and visibility to a taloon,' the panels having, very thin frames and extending to the back, of ■ the hood itself. In addition'to these advantages we - find-"that rear screens are coming, into 'favour. It was riot that "manufacturers failed to appreciate what a source - of coftifort this type of screen would be to those in'the back.compartment, but. rather that it'had .to be ruled out on the score of _• expense. Nowadays, however, for. a little'over £300" one can . purchase. a ■ fullfourseater . with a six-panel', rear screen, and may be said,-without equivocation, that, on a cross-country run.' it makes all the difference between comfort and inconvenience to the rear passengers. •' WARMING UP THE ENGINE. To warm up the engine place a piece of paper over the front of the radiator and run the engine, at a speed slightly - over idling. This cuts off the air circulation through the radiator, but the paper -should not be left there when the car is pulling, as it may overheat the engine. * ! / TO MAKE REPAIRS EASIER.' ■Before attempting to do any, motor repair work, such asremoving 'the cylinder head 'or dropping the crank.case, it is a good plan to get...the enSine thoroughly warmed up first. • All the nuts, bolts, and screws turn with less effort when warm, :
