FIRE LOSS.
STORE AND POST OFFICE. (SFBCUL TO "THX PMaa.") GISBORNB, May 6. The Tuparoa Trading Company's store and office and the Tuparoa Post Office were destroyed by fire at 3.80 this morning. The fire was discovered by Mr Ward, a neighbour, who resides a short distance away. He awoke to nnd the reflection of the fire shining through his window, and an alarm was raised, but little could be done in the absence of fire-fighting apparatus. The intensity of the fire soon threatened the post office, a two storey building with a residence attached, situated about 50 yards from the store. Intimately the flames caught' the roof of the Post Office, setting this building on fire, and nothing could be done' to save it. The postmaster, Mr J. N. McNamara', succeeded in rescuing most of the. contents of the building, but apart from a few sucks of flour' and sugar, practically npthing was Bav*d from the Trading Company's store. The latter building had been erected a good many years, the business fteing managtd by Mr Dalgairns. The Tuparoa Trading Company's building was insured for £9OO, and the stock for £3BOO, both policies being with the National office.
