OABIJS AOSOOtttIOH.) FAIRBANKS, May 2. Later details of Malcolm Smith's overland journey to Point Barrow show that the party suffered severe hardships owing to the intense cold and the shortness of food. Of the G8 dogs with, which they started, only 16 were* alive on reaching Point Barrow. Many died of hunger and the others were so weak that they were shot to end thoir misery. In view of the difficulties so far encountered, Captain Wilkins is considering reorganisation of arrangements for conveying stores to his base and the carrying out of general plans for the expedition.
