THE BETTING TAX.

. . TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS. ' Sir, —Kindly allow me to make two corrections in my letter under the above heading as it appears in your con;espon<J';ncc columns to-day. The context shows that au important word is missing in the third li'tie. Instead of "I \enture to join with' you," etc., it should read "I venture to join issue with you.'' In line eleven "special plea" shopld read "specious plea." l'ou say, inter alia, that I "scoff at the' very idea of reducing gambling by improving the moral tone of the community." What I did 6tress was the difficulties placed in the way of moral improvement by the facilities provided under' Government sanction for inducing. young people to indulge in the insidious and hurtful habit of gambling.—Yours, etc.. W. J. WILLIAMS. April 30th, 1926.
