AUSTRALIAN STEEL.

Arrangements have been compleled between -the American Steel Foundries, Chicago, U.S.A., and Messrs Bradford Kendall, Ltd., of Alexandria, Sydney, for the production in Australia of railway specialities in cast steel on American lines. The American Steel Foundries are one of the largest organisations manufacturing cast steel produota, and have nine separate works in the U.S.A. At their works at Alliance, Ohio, automatic couplers, many of which have been installed on Australian railways, are manufactured. The general adoption of automatic couplers having been determined for most Australian railways, this will be one of the earliest products undertaken by Messrs Bradford Kendall, Ltd., and other specialities will 'be introduced as development proceeds. The works are to be considerably enlarged, and all the latest equipment for the production of steel castings on the most up-to-date lines is being obtained to ensure mass production on the moot efficient and economical basis. The equipping of tha new works and supervision of early production will be under the direct supervision of an expert from the American Steel Foundries organisation.
