Councillor Resigns. Yesterday morning Cr. G. 8. Morris, who has been a member of the Lyttelton Borough Council f6r several terms, handed in his resignation as a councillor to the Town Clerk (Mr F. Hobbs). Cr. Morris's action in resigning is stated to be for private reasons. An election to fill the vacancy will be necessary. Yesterday afternoon a number of citizens waited on Mr W. T. Lestei, who was defeated for the Mayoralty at the last municipal election, and requested him to allow himself to be nominated for the vacancy. Jit Lester consented to be nominated. Miniature Rifle Shooting. A well-attended meeting of members of the Lyttelton Gun Club was held in the Drill Hall on Tuesday evening to consider the question of taking up miniature rifle Bhooting during the winter months. The club captain, Mr J. McLeod, presided. It \4raA decided to take miniiture shooting forthwith, and the opening night was fixed for Wednesday next at the Drill Hall. The Excelsior Hall was well filled last evehiiig, when th 6 Rev. F. G. Brittan gave a lecture, under the auspiceß of the Canterbury Pilgrims' Association, on "Old Canterbury." The Mayor (Mr F, E. Sutton) presided. The lecture proved of absorbing interest to those present, particularly the part dealing With the early days of Lyttelton. Some fine lantern slides, made from old photographs, Were shown. At the close ttio lecturer was accorded a vote of thanks. Lyttelton Scouts. The annu&l social of the Lyttelton Boy Stidutg was held oh Tuesday Evening in the Presbyterian Sunday School room. There waS a lai-gfi number of parents and Scouts jifetieht. Mf w, T. Lester took the chair. The report and balance-sheet were read by thft secretary, Mrs GeArge Lester, and confirmed. Items were given by Sea ScOut Mate W. Gilray, Itev. W. F. Nicholt, and Mr Thompson. Apologies were received froth the Mayor, Mr Fi E. Sutton, and Mrs A. Wyatt. Mf Nichbll presented certificates for swimming won by the Sea Scotits at the jamboree, and said it was significant that Lyttelton were the only Sea Scouts to win prizes in swimming at the jamboree. Jack Rkind obtained two first places tod a second place, and E. Radcliffe one first place. Major Ashworth gave two Very excellent ScoUt khlvfefc 16 tiach of thd Canterbury troops to visit the jamboree for the two best all-fttund Scouts in the troop at the jambofiS. Tliey tfeM awarded to Sea Scout Jack Rhlnd and Sea Scout Jack Childs. friies for attendance, presented by Mr Bloitliim, 868., jfeathcote, were awarded at follows:—Sea Scouts Dave Lester 1, Norman Sriicft 2; Wolf Cubs Frdd. O'Neill 1, McKay 2. Special prlzo wai, awardod to Wolf Club Pat. Reardon by Mr W. T. Lester for the best all-round Wolf dub for the yeaf. Golf. An inter-club golf match is to bo played on the Charteris Bay links during the weekend between teams representing the Diamond Harbour Club and the Charteflfe Bay Club.
