An exceptionally powerful. and interesting programme of pictures has been secured for presentation at the Queen's Theatre today, the first attraction being Gloria Swanson's most ambitious effort for ' the screen, . the. brilliant historical drama "Aladmne Sans Gene," a story of the Frcnoh Involution (find the days of the Napoleonic Court which followed that great social upheaval. The story of the Parisian laundress who became a ducness, and 'imperiously ruled the Emperor with a stack of- unpaid'laundry bills is «ow history, and Gloria Swanson brings to this piquant role all her powers of dramatio characterisation which help Sans Gene. to. rank with the great ones cf France. The picture is staged amid settings of elaborate grandeur, through which the brilliant and . beautiful women of the Imperial Court move with delightful dignity. Th« French Government afforded Paramount every assistance while making "Madame Sans Gene," with the result that Misb -Swanson appears in the robes and jewels of the Empress Josephine, and has utilised Versailles and the Grand Trianon with imposing results. The second picture is First National's film version of Ibanez. Sensational novel "Enemies of Women,", in which Aim* Burjens and Lionel Barrymore appear in the leading \roles. It, has retained the exotic and Continental atmosphere which made the book so famous, and gains much in interest in the capable hands of the talented cast.
