CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The urnual meeting o£ the Canterbury branch of the National Beekeepers' Association of New Zealand «u held on Saturday night, Mr G. T. Thurston presiding over a good attendance. The Annual Conference. The secretary of the National Association wrote stating that the annual conference would bo held at Hamilton, opening on June Bth and continuing till the 11th. Regarding matters referred to the eitcutivoj it was stated: That a Bill to amend the Apiaries Act would be amongst the firsf business of next session; the amendments would deal with (1) increase of the maximum fine; (-2) removal of diseased beea; (3) removal of anomalies in respoct of prosecutions. As the result of representations made by the officer of the Association, the position in respect of instructors' salaries had greatly improv«d. The proposed Honey Week had been held in abeyance, owing to the difficulty of formulating a workable scheme. The transport of queen bees by poet had been discussed with the postal authorities, but complete satisfaction had not been obtained yet. The letter was received.
Mr O. A. Pope was appointed and it was decided to ask Mr M. A. Bright to act as second delegate. "Some discussion arose on the remit proposing to delete from the constitution provision for itidividuaj beekeepers to became members of the National AseociatiOa but not necessarily members of atiy branch. Tho chairman said .that the alteration was desired in order that there might be better control of prices on the iocal markets. ' The remit was agreed to. It was decided to forward a remit to the effect that the Department should allow apiary instructors officially to attend the annual conferences of the Association. It wag decided to recommend that the 1937 conference be held in Christchurch. Price Fixing. The general secretary forwarded the following resolution: — "That this meeting of the executive considers that the most important work th> National Beekeepers' Association can undertake at the, present time is to organise the industry with regard to fixing the prices for local marketing of honey at a uniform paying figure." Annual Eeport. H. Sargeant, Apiary Instructor, for doing much to stimulate Interest in the Association. Ecrbyd; librarian. Mrs T. Best! executive, Mesdamfcs Sargeant and Christie and Mr G. W.
