THE CORRIEDALE.

N.Z. SHEEP FOR SCOTLAND. TO . "THE FRESS.") DUNEDLN", April 1". By the Rutorua which is due to leave Wellington on riaturdaj-- nest, Mr J. A. • Johnstone is shipping to the order of Mr James i'ipfiy lhe Uraiige, tfurnt Island, J.-iteshire, ccotland, me first lot or purebred t.oiriedaie sheep that has been si>id in the Dominion tor export to Great Britain. '1 his sale ivas effected on June 4th last rear lor shipment in tieptember-October "next, but table instructions were rereived recently tor prumpt delivery hence the earlier shipment. The draft going forward comprises 10 ram hoggets and 20 ewe hoggets, and those who have seen the selection made are in agreement that it will do full justice to .this very remarkable dual purpose breed of sheep which had its origin in New Zealand some 60 years ,igo. Of the 10 ram hoggets one is an extra special sheep, viz., A2O, whose sire won the nr?t prize iii a clnss of 40 entries-at the New Zealand Royal Show held under the auspices of the Canterbury Agricultural and I'astorial Association at Christrhurch in November last. This ram.was the supreme champion at the same Show, and his sire, AlO. was also supreme champion at the Canterbury Metropolitan Show of 1922 in addition to which he won the first prize in ! the class for two-year-old rams, and was also awarded the New Zealand Sheepbreeders' Association Challenge Shield for the- best rarn of the age. A2O is ! intended for the head sire in Mr Pipler's own flock of which 20 ewe hog- ! gets from Bushey Park ar© the nucleus. ' The other ram hoggets are intended for j other flocks in Great Britain where they 1 will in all probability be used for cross. I in£ purposes with other breeds' of British sheep. There are quite a number of experienced sheepmen, both in the Mother Country and also in the Dominion, who ! believe, that there are many areas in I Great Britain where the Corriedale will do well. According to Lord Bledisloe, ! a recognised authority on the pastoral ! : irtdtistrv'of Great Britain, sheepmen there for over, a century have been endeavouring to evolve a dual purpose sheep, but without appreciable success. It has been the. good fortune of her daughter, New Zealand, to achieve the object the Mother' Cpuntry had in view,, and so complete has been the success of the evolution that during the past few years orders for the best New Zealand" Corriedales continue to come in steadily from, most, of the sheepbreeding countries of the world. The New Zealand Corriedale is now to be found in considerable numbers in North and South America, in the East and South of Africa, throughout Australia, in Japan, and one lot has even won its way into China. ■ ;< •Recently enquiries for Corriedale sheep have been received from Russia, and also Peru, so that it may be said that the breed has' become quite a cosmopolitan one.
