SCOTTISH SOCIETY.
The monthly ceilidh of the Scottish Society was held on Thursday evening, in their rooms, Manchester street, when a large audience was present, including many recent .arrivals from the Homeland. Chief John S. Chisholm presided, assisted by his Chieftains and Councillors. Piper Geo. McAlietcr opened with a. selection on the great Highland war pipe. The chief extended a cordial welcomo to all present, calling attention to the members' meeting on tho Q2nd Ijping the date for nomination of Councillors. A lament was played by Piper G-. McAlister for the latp Chieftain A. Fraser, who was one of the founders of the Society. The following items were rendered during the evening:—Songs by Missoe Dalraer and Carnie, and Mr Joseph Forboa; recitations by Messrs J. Unwin, Cunningham, and Dow: instrumental selections by Mr Woodward and company (2); tho Pip© Band gave selections during the evening; ' dances,: Seann triubhais, Miss Gimblet; Gillie Callum, Miss Dent; international reel, Misses Neate,<Walton, Bruce, and Chisholm; hornpipe. Miss Neafe; jig. Miss B. Bruce; reels by tho juveniles of the Society. Mrs A. Mncquarrie waa accompanist.
