IMPORTANT SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY. (Bt CABLZ—PSESS ASSOCIATION-T-COPYRIGHT.) (Stdiibt ''Son" Service.) NEW YORK, March 9. After six years' research in the laboratory of the University of Illinois, the chemical element known by the spectrum lino has been discovered by the use of an X-ray spectroscope, and identified as element 61, for which scientists, ha.ve been searching for years. It is not believed to be radio-active, but is an addition to the 85 known elements. The discovery was made by Dr. Hopkins, of the University of Illinois, and J. Allan Harris, his co-workcr, and a graduate of the University of British Columbia.
