FIRES.

HOUSE TOTALLY DESTROYED. The €ity Fire Brigade received a call at 2.38 o'clock yesterday afternoon to the residence of Mrs Jane Howell, 100 North, road, Papanui. The fire had a strong hold on the seven-roomed building when .the bridage arrived, and it was past their power to save it. A bungalow and store next door, occupied by Mr C. The dividing fence was considerably burned, and the store caught fire in two places, but very little damage was' done. The house that was destroyed was.msured in the State Fire Office/for £6OO, and Mr Jessop had his property covered by the Atlas Company. Mr W. Nicholls was the owner of the house occupied by Mrs Howell. , FIRE IN COLOMBO STREET. About half-past nine last evening an outbreak of fire was discovered in the rear of a shop in Colombo street occupied by L. J. Bird, cycle manufacturer. At the rear of,the shop is.a two-storey building, the lower portion of which is used as-a workshop, while a quantity of furniture is stored in the .floor, above. Considerable damage was done to the building and to the contents. The insurances were not available last night. Be prepared. See that, you have adequate insurance on your house and furniture.
