MAGISTERIAL. MONDAY. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Drunkenness charges were admitted by three labourers, first offenders, two of whom were fined 10s and one 20s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. A WOMAN OFFENDS. Margaret Cecilia Hansbury, domestic, aged 34 years, Christchurch, was charged with having been found drunk for the second time in six months, and with having refused to quit a hotel when requested. On the first charge she was convicted and fined 10s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, while for refusal to quit the. hotel she was convicted and discharged. THREE MONTHS' GAOL. Sentence of throe months' imprisonment with hard labour was passed on Thomas Jackson, labourer, aged 35 years, Woolston, who denied having committed a grossly indecent act in Green's lane on Saturday. FIGHTING AND "MAD DRUNK." Fighting in Gloucester street on Saturday was a charge levelled against Percy FrederickHooper, aged 31 years, driver, Christchurch, and William Percy Byron, aged 18 years, labourer, Christchurch. Police statements were to the effect that it appeared as if Byron had "smacked out" at Hooper in defence of his sister. "I must havo been mad drunk . . . . I've' been a friend of tho Byron family for years, and I can't account for this," said Hooper in explanation. His Worship convicted and fined Hooper 15 and costs, and with regard to the charge against Byron said: "I- think this should be dismissed, as trivial." , UNLICENSED DRIVERS. For having driven a motor-truck on Colombo street without a driver's license, Leslie Cook, Christchurch, was fined 20s and costs. , ' . . "Guilty," pleaded Gordon Blackwood, Christchurch, in answer to charges of having had no appropriate identification marks on his motor-lorry and having driven without a license. On the'first count he was fined 10s and on the second i' 3. . Employing an unlicensed person to drive n motor-car cost Georgo Duncalf, Christchurch, a £2 penalty. DUST AND FLIES. On a charge of having failed to protect meat from dust and flies, Claude Foster, care of W. Howell, butcher, Christchurch, was ordered to pay costs. ' ,„ On a similar charge Foster e employor, W. Howell, was similarly dealt with. MOTORISTS' MISTAKES. Because ho stopped a motor-car on the wrong side of a road, Leon Goldsmith, City, was fined 20s. B'or having had identification marks, which were not appropriate, on his motorcar recently, Albert Holdeu was ordered to pay costs. „ , _ T , An omnibus driver, Charles H. Keys, was fined 20s for having failed to stay on the left side of the road. _ Leaving a motor-car unattended cost Charles Diopenhiem, Christchurch, a fine of 15s and costs. . . , , , . Scott Ramsay, who denied having driven, a motor-car past a standing tram car, was con- . victed and fined ±'s and costs. BEEKEEPER CONVICTED. A beekeeper of Springston South, Stephen | James Keast, was convicted and ordered to., pay 10s costs for having failed to treat his j apiary for disease. I SPEEDING. Exceeding the spood limit over tho inrer € . section of Colombo and Canon streets was I denied by a youth, John Hudson ialcon, Christchurch. ■ Statements were to the effect that Falcon had travelled at about 40 miles an hour over tho crossing, and that he had been fined £ls in December for speeding. "This youth has the speed mania, said. Mr Young. "Ho will be convicted and ordered to pay tho costs; his license will bo suspended till March 31st (when it expires), and he will be debarred from obtaining another tor two years." Speeding in a motor-car cost Bernard Darby, St. Albans, a fine of £lO and costs. His license was endorsed. MOTOR-CYCLE ON FOOTPATH 1 There was no appearance- of John Read, who was charged with having ridden a motorcycle on a footpath in Salisbury street. He was convicted and fined £5 and costs. "Convicted and fined 20s and costs 7s, said the Magistrate when dealing with Harold George Kingston, who was charged with pillion riding in Haglcy avonue. j OUT OF CONTROL. The case in the Juvenile Court in which | a 10-ycar-old boy was charged with being not under proper control, was adjourned for 12 months, during which time ho'will be under tho control of the Probation Officer.
