U.S. ATHLETES. DEPARTURE FOR HOME. (press association telegham.) WELLINGTON, March 8. Jackson Scholz and Lloyd Hahn were entertained by tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Council before leaving, and presented with New Zealand nigs. A. similar presentation was made to Randolph Hose. The Wellington Centre gave the Americans silver kiwis and greenstone paper-weights Both of tha visitors spoke very highly ot New Zealand and so id that there was material here, with proper training, for the Olympic contests. The attendance was a revelation. Such crowds as watched them at Wellington were seldom teen in the States. It is stated by a visitor who saw Kose run at Master-ton on Thursday that if he had not heen blocked by the limit men he coii'd have beaten the world's, record. CHAMPIONSHIPS NEXT WEEK. The following men havo been selected to train with a view to representing the province of Canterbury at the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Championships in Dunedin. on March 19th and SOth. J. H. Murphy, 100 yds; C. L. Allen lOOvds. 220 yds. and 140 yds; C. H. Taylor, 440vds and 440 yds hurdles; J. H. Nalder, half-m'ile, mile, and three miles; Stevens (Nelson), high jump; C. E. Low, long jump, hop, step, and jump, shot putt; J. McHolm. hammer; \V. J, Batstone. pole vault: F. J, Grose and A. W. Day, mile and three miles cycling. Men selected for training »Te required to he in attendance at Lancaster Park today at 5.30 p.m. The number sent will depend on the finances available. The team will leave for Dunedin on Wednesday week, under the charge of Mr W. Flewellyn.
