MOTOR SPORTS.

- / RACES AT RANGIORA. •The Christchurch Motor Club held a motorcycle race meeting on the Rflngiora racecourse on Saturday afternoon. Weather conditions were ideal for racing, and good times were recorded-. There was a very fair attendance 'of .the general public. D. N. Shaw in the first race had a'fall, receiving facial abrasions and a shaking. During the afternoon R. J. Hore, winner of the South Island championship, and holder of the New Zealand middle-weight mile grass record, riding a 31 Douglas, succeoaed in lowering the track record, held by H. L. Piper made on a .7-9 Harley-Davidson, of 66 seconds, by 2 1-5 seconds, Hore's time being 63 4-5 seconds. Ho was given\a great ovation on returning to the paddock. The track is a little over a mile, and was in a fairly gobd order. There was a large staff of officials, who carried out their duties in a very capable manner, Mr R. E. Russell being secretary. Horo retiring, for the next two laps a great race was fought out between Piper and Marsh, these two being three-quarters of a lap ahead o£ the field. At the home turn Piper drew away, and finished with ten' yards to spare. Haden was about a lap behind, Marsh haying half a mile lead on Thomas. Time, smm 57 4-ssec. CLUB HANDICAP, 8 MILES 7 FURLONGS. The end of the hrst lap saw Hockley, Gay, and Thomas in that order, with Hore almost a lap behind, on scratch. Owing to trouble, Riley pulled oil I. During the next two or three Hockley and Thomas led alternately, with Hore and Marsh riding a great race, the latter being ! well ahead.
