MOTORING.

MOTOR VEHICLES.

REGISTRATIONS TO DATE. In a return furnished to the Minister for Internal Affairs, the- Hon. E. F. Bollard, the Registrar of Motor Vehicles give's the total registrations in the Dominion up to January 31st, as 127,113. The return affords the following particulars of the registrations of vehicles in both Islands:— NORTH ISLAND. C;ir s .. .. ~ 5^500 Trucks, etc. .. .. n,683 Cycles ~ .. 14,624 77,827 SOUTH ISLAND. Cars ' ■•• 32.633 1 rucks, etc. .. ~ 5,165 9/ eles .. .. 11,488 ' - 49,286 Grand total .. 127,113 MASCOTS. Radiator mascots have gone right out of iashion in France, or at any rate m Pans, and have been replaced by a Id. be dangling before the rear window, says the "Autocar." This appears to give much more scope for ingenuity than a device hung on the front of the ear, for it is possible to run through the whole range of the animal world and to choose among the multitudinous vagaries of fashion since fashion was created. From a fat. rosy porker to Madame de la Pompadour, or a modern clubman returning home from a festive gathering, there js sufficient scope to make it unnecessary for any two ?ars to have the same figure strung up over the rear light. Radiator mascots had to.be bought, while those now in fashion can bo produced—and apparently generally are produced—by lady members of the family. Another fashion, which it is hoped, for the sake of the less, wealthy- members of the movement, will not become general, is to encircle the radiator cap with precious stones, as an oxample of which an expensive car was seen recently in the Champs Elysees adorned in this way with a ring of turquoise. Are we likely to see the diamond necklace, emerald and ruby bracelets, and pearl nendants introduced as articles of adornment for the radiators of our cars?-
