The hearing of the habeas corpus proceedings, which were set down for today, will be postponed for a week. Friends, who contend that the admission of adultery, which, is not a crime, in South Africa, where it was rnitted, believe that the Countess will bo granted a rehearing and that the exclusion order will bo- rescinded. Some of v tlio mystery in connexion with tho Government's sudden decision to permit the Countess of Cathcart to enter tho United States, has been cleared away, but no official information haa aided in tho clarification. It came, rather through observation of the series oi! developments that, in tho opinion of observers, revealed an intention to open a way for proceedings that will enablo the Government to extricate itself more or less gracefully from a situation too embarrassing to bo longer endured. New proceedings, it is predicted, will eventuate at another hearing before tho Board *& Inquiry which will exonerate her and follow its decision by allowing her possible unrestricted admittance into tho country.

THEATRICAL CONTRACT.

It is stated that the Countess of Cathcart has signed a contract with Earl Carroll for the production of her play, "Ashes/" with herself as leading lady, at a salary estimated at 30J30 dollars a week, with 5000 dollars advance royalty on her play.
