A NOTABLE FIRM.
ANDERSONS, LTD. 75TH ANNIVERSARY. In celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the foundation of their works in 1850, Andersons, Ltd., have caused to be prepared and issued a most interesting illustrated booklet detailing graphically with the development of the present big enterprise from very small beginnings. Those who know anything at all of the history of Canterbury know woll Ik that sturdy pioneer from iScotlaud, the late Mr Jonn Anderson, arrived at Lyttolton with his wife and infant sou (tho present Air .lobn Anderson) iu the Sir George Seymour, one of tho historic "First Four" ships, in December, 1830, and how in the true pioneering spirit he established his first forgo at "The Bricks" site in Oxford terrace, and later transferred his extending business to the site in Cashel street, from which developed the present extensive works. The souvenir booklet contains a full historia! survey of the rise and progress of the firm,' and nn interesting account of the parts'played bv the different principals in making the enterprise what it is to-day. The accounts aiven of the more important works undertaken by the firm such as bridge building for the Public Works and' Railway Departments. dredge building for the sold industry, and steamer building for the marine service indicate the progressivencss of the concern assist effectively in the difficult work of developing a new country. The booklet will be" a valuable contribution to the historical records of Canterbury.
