The Hand Contest was continued today, when the baritone eolo _was decided in the afternoon and the A_ Grade first test in the evening. First A grade test—Twelve, competing bands faced the judge, Mr F. JRicketis. No points will be announced till Friday evening. The B Flat Euphonium Solo contest was won by T. Hughes, sen. (Woolston), with 95 points. W. Penn'yquiek (St. Kilda) was second with 93 points, and M. MeKenzie (Hamilton) and C. Bryant (Napier) tied with 90 points.
BANDS' ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. (rnE3S ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, February 24. The annual meeting of tho .South Island Brass Bands' Association discussed the question of sending promising young payers to England for study or alternatively obtaining the services of* past bandmasters from England. Several members of the North Association were present. It was decided to appoint three'delegates from each association to determine ,on the best eourse. Dr. Thaeker was re-elected president.
PIPE BANDS. EXHIBITION CONTESTS. (PKBSS ASSOCIATION TZLBGBAM.) DUNEDIN, February 24. The Exhibition. Pipe. Band Contest was held to-day, thirteen bands competing. The weather was fine for the Quickstep, but rain set iri in the afternoon, and the remaining competition bad to be held indoors. The placings in the championship test were: Duuedin 157.36, Balcluthn 152,70. Wanganui 141.56, Christchurch Scottish 121.89, Tininra 121.22, . Christchurch Caledonian 113.97,, iiltlmm 110.01, Wvndham 109.35, Huitferville 108.77,'Christchurch Highland 108.14, 1 nvereargill 107.03, Mataura 92.47, Oamaru 54.08. The placings in the Quickstop were: Balclutha 288, Dunedin 281, Wanganui 2602, Christchurch Scottish 241 J. The Hunter Shield, for mosb points in dress and drill in tho Quickstep was won by Duuedin, with Balclutha second and Wanganui third, while Balclutha also won the medal for the best DrumMajor.
