FRUIT MARKET.

CHRISTCHURCH. The market was fairly well supplied -with vegetables this woek. The demand was good and most varieties realised high prices.- Fruit was also in good supply, but generally prices were satisfactory. Tomatoes are still selling at a good price owing to the fact that the outdoor-grown are coming in slowly. There is iiot a great deal'. o£ stone fruit coming to hand, consequently it is selling well. The stone fruit crops generally seem to be light this year. Plums are scarce, and all lines are bringing good prices. This week greengages made up to 9sd a lb wholesale. A small consignment of new season's dessert pears from Hawke's Bay reached Ohristchurch during the week. They sold at up to 10s 6d a small box; New season's dessert applesare still scarce, and are selling at _ good figures. A shipment of Fiji bananas is due to arrive in Ohristchurch to-day, and another lot is expected on Monday. They should make good prices, as the market is bare at present. Lemons are still selling very slowly, whilst the oranges on hand are on. the sour side and are not selling well. It is expected that • the new shipmont of oranges will bo sweeter. A shipment of Italian oranges and r lemon's.is expectod'to arrive in Christcliurch on February 9th.
