MAORI COMMUNITY.
PASTURES NEW FOR RATANA. (MIESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WANGANUI, January 29. "It is hot the first time in the world's history that new religions have been obliged to seek pastures new," a reporter was informed to-day, when enquiring into the report that so-nie of the Ratana executive are seriously considering the renjoval of the headquarters of Ratana Church to Te Kuiti. One Maori said that the Natives had been pin-pricked by local bodies and health authorities in regard to sanitation at Ratana, and they resented this interference. Should tlie headquarters of the church be removed, doubtless this would mean that a largo number of Maoris now living at Ratana would also go to Te Kuiti. This in turn would be a big loss to the business peoplo of Wanganui. It is also mentioned in connexion with the removal proposal that a big farming scheme is being discussed whereby the young Maoris may trained in farming pursuits, and the produce of the farm will be used or sold for the benefit of the new Maori community.
