TEMUKA ITEMS.

The pipe organ of St. Peter's Church, Temuka, which has recently undergone repairs and renovation, has been completed and uilt in the north-east corner of the nave of the church. On Thursday night, music lovers were given a rare treat, when an organ recital was given by Air Arthur Lilly, A.R.C.0., organist of Avonside Church, Christchurch: the church being packed with an appreciative audience. The work of rebuilding was carried out by Messrs Pear6e and Son, of Christchurch. The following is the programme :—Hymn, "Praise my Soul" ; prelude in G Major, Bach; Prayer and Cradle Song, Guilmant; A Curious Story (from Childhood Scenes) and Dreaming, Schumann ; finale from First Organ Sonata,' Mendelssohn; vocal solo, "0, Divine Redeemer," Gounod, Mrs L. V. Talbot; variations on "As Pants the Hart," Spohr; "Restless Nights" Heller; intermezzo, Mascagni; Fanfare in D, Lemmenß; vocal solo, "0, Rest in the Lord" (from "Elijah"), Mendelssohn, Miss Comer; Spring Song, Mendelssohn; bridal chorus from "Lohengrin," "Wagner; offertoire' in G Major, Wely; hymn, ""We Love the -ace, 0 Lord"; march, Solemnelle in C Major Mailly. A euchre tournament in aid of the lighting fund of the Winchester Sunday School was held in the schoolroom oi Tuesday evening. The attendance was very large and the first prizes were won by Mrs J. C. South and Mr B. Leathern. The consolation prizes went to Miss Gladys South and Mr C. Louden. The dance music was supplied by Mr W. Smith (Orari) and extras were supplied by Mrs A. B. Scott, Misses D. ans G. South and Mr M. Patrick. The vicar, Rev. G. N. Watson, said l?e was pleased "to see so many enjoying themselves, and he hoped they would continue their euchre 500..~s again-dur-ing the winter evenings. On behalf of the committee, Mr L. H._ Orbell thanked all those who had assisted to make the socials such a success. They now had enough monev in hand to_ instal the lights, and the money raised by the next socials would go towards installing electric light in St. John's Church, Winchester.
