Bush fires in the Murrumbidgee district, which were threating Canberra, are now under control, but the firefighters ara remaining at their posts in ease their services are needed further. GREAT AREA DEVASTATED. (AUSTRALIAN AND M.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received January 29th, 9.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 29. Bush fires are still raging in the Bathurst district after two days, and have devastated a great area.
FURTHER OUTBREAK. (AUSTRALIAN akd k.z. cable association) (Received January 29th, 10.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 29. The bush fire menacing the Federal capital has again broken out. It now has a twenty miles' front, and the Federal territory is cohered with a thick pall of smoke. The fire-fighters are lying exhausted on the roadside after an all-night fight. So far their efforts have prevented the flames from approaching the pine plantations as the wind is against the advance of the fire.
