A Paris hotelkeeper is at present wondering whether one of his recent clients is a cobbler who carries his "repair orders" with him or a collector of old shoes. Some time ago a young man, describing himself as "Henry Jones, of London," arrived at an hotel in the Rue Pigallo, where he booked a room, paying a week's rent in advance. After a day's stay ho left the hotel empty-handed, and lias not been heard of or seen since. At the end of the week for which the young man had paid, the Hotelkeeper went up to the room and found there two empty bags and a large assortment of old shoes — 171 pairs—arranged in rows round the room. What the Englishman's motive was in travelling about with no other luggage than all these shoes, and why he should suddendy. have abandoned his collection, are' mysteries not yet solved. Bankers, Lawyers, Doctors, Journalists, Painters, and Mechanics all favour "NO-RUBBING LAUNDRY HELP" for washing clothes. 7
