MOTORS COLLIDE.
INJURED PERSONS COMPENSATED. Charged in the Magistrate's Court yesterday with having driven a motorcar dangerously along Stanmore road on November 27th last, Leonard McKinnon, a young man, residing in- Shirley road, Christchurch, substituted his plea of not guilty for one of guilty after hearing police evidence. The evidence was to the effect that McKinnon, travelling at an excessive ( speed, collided with a car belonging to Mr Henry F. Stevens, of Page's road, Aranui, at the corner of River road and Stanmore road, knocking it over and. damaging it to the extent of approximately £2OO. In Stevens' car at ,the tjme of the impact were Mr Stevens, his son Charles, and two .school girls, Owen Willis and Marjorie Hill, both of Page's road, who were being driven to school. Mr Stevens, sen., and the girl Hill were hurt and medically attended.
Witnesses in the case were Allister Edwards, Linwood, Walter Rountree, Papanui, lan B. Jamieson, Lower Riccarton, Frank Hall, Fendalton, Henry F. and Charles Stevens, and Owen Willis, of Aranui. The presiding Magistrate (Mr H. A. Young) convicted and fined MoKinnon £lO and ordered hira to pay costs and endorsed his license. In addition lie directed that the defendant pay to Mr Stevens £5 4s 6d and to the child Hill £l4 las 6d by way of compensation for the injuries they had received.
