WAITOMO CAVES.
INSTALLING ELECTRIC LIGHTING (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGHAU.) WELLINGTON, January 28. The Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister for the Tourist Department, states that the work of wiring the main corridors and caverns of Waitomo, Ruakuri and Ararnii Caves has been completed by the Public Works •, Department, and these are now electrically lighted by power supplied by the Waitomo Power Board from the Hora Hora works. There is still much to be done in the way of effect lighting, shadow lighting, flood lights, etc., and this work is being proceeded with as fast as possible. The carrying of lanterns by visitors and the illumination of the caves by mhgnesium-wire' flares are therefore relics of the past. Everyone who has visited the Jenolan Caves in New South Wales is impressed with the ingenious use made there of electrical Slumination. Jenolan was visited by Mrß. M. Wilson (general manager* of Tourist and Health Resorts) before the decision to instal electric light at Waitomo Caves was made.
