New York City, famous for the clearness of its atmosphere, is now undergoing a radical change, duo to tho coal strike. Householders, office buildings, and factories have gradually been forced to use bituminous coal, as tho anthracite stocks havo boon exhausted. Tho climax is now reached, and New York ia beginning to resemble Loudon. During most of the day tho City is now under a black blanket. Lights burn all day in offices usually lighted by tho sun, and many citizens, not appreciating tho cause, arc complaining of the fog. Smoke clouds rolling from tho factories havo caused numerous enquiries from newspaper offices regarding tho location of tho "big lire." Tho Firet Department and Weather Bureau aro also besieged with questions. Tho Hcttlth Department is now investigating, and will endeavour to relievo tho situation. Tho tops of tho skyscrapers aro invisible.
