Miss Miller early forged her wav to the front, and at the ond of the first hundred yards had two yards' advantage from Misses Jepson, Champion, Simmonds, Farquhar, and Whyman. Miss Champion headed Miss Jepson in the next lap and set off after Miss Miller, drawing level with a mp and a half to go. Then followed ono of tho finest races of the championships. Misses Miller and Champion, swimming stroke for stroke, the pair turned together for the final twentv vards, and amidst tlic greatest cxciteme'nt* Miss Miller just beat Miss Champion by a touch. 880 yds Men's Championship. Enwright set out to be pacemaker, and had a lead for the first 300 yavds. Baird then set out to force the pace* drawing- level with Enwright just as thev completed half the distance. With only 100 yards to go, Lindsay was swimming well, two yards behind tho Aucklander, who, however, held too much in reserve. With tho pace on over the last bit, Baird drew out to win by 12 yards from Lindsay, Enwright being five yards away. 220 Yards Open Handicap.

The annual conference of delegates from tho various swimming centres of New Zealand was held here this afternoon. Mr W. E. D. Bishop, the president, referred in his opening remarks to the improvement taking place in swimming in the Dominion as indicated by the fresh records established. > It was resolved that the Council be requested to arrange a visit from an overseas swimmer or swimmers. . A remit was carried that where facilities exist, swimming and life-saving be compulsory in the primary and secondary schools, I and that the Government be asked to inelude swimming and life-saving as a special subject in a teacher's training syllabus. Next Year the championships will bo held at Auckland. A suggestion that they should be divided between two centres was | thrown out.
