PERSONAL. j (SPICIAL TO ''THS PRESS.") | GREYMOUTH, December 30- | Mrs F. Hay, who has been visiting j Mr and Mrs T. E. Y. Seddon, returned to Wellington this morning. Mr and Mrs Colin McDonald! formerly of Greymouth, are visiting Mrs McDonald's parents, Mr and Mrs J. Paseoc (Greymouth). Mr F. D. McGovern, manager of the Bank of New South Waics at Timaru, is visiting the West Coast. Miss Allen, of San Francisco, is spending an extended holiday with her sister, Mrs Gilmer, of Waitahu. Mr Geo. Jaques, formerly a wellknown resident of Keefton, died at Thames yesterday. The deceased, who lost his "sight, through a mining accident in Keefton some forty years ago, left the district about twenty years ago. He'leaves u widow and grownup familv. •Mr It."Hatch, the official starter for the Greymouth aud Keefton Jockey Ciub's Midsummer Meetings, arrived by to-day's express. The Kov. .T. Perkins and Mrs Perkins (Hokitika) are spending a fortnight's holiday in Otago. Miss P. Ashton, who for some time has acted as clerk to No. 12 District Highways Council, was on the occasion of her approaching marriage presented with a pocket wailet by the members of the Council. Shooting Accident. A boy named Henry Kearns, residing at Soldiers, near Keefton, while out shootinp with sotiic companions on Boxing Day, received 6erious injuries to the right forearm through his gun accidentally discharging. Several polleta of fahot also entered the sido of his face. He was immediately conveyed by car to the Keefton Hospital, whero his injuries wc.ro attended to by Drs Conlon and Church. It is hoped that tho boy's haud will be saved. Weddings. The marriage of Florence Maud, voungest daughter of Mr and Mrs "W. Cairns (Terrace, Keefton), to Arthur At hoi, youngest son of Mrs G. Cate, of Nelson, waa .solemnised at St. Stephen's Church, Kecftou, yesterday, the service being choral. Miss Edith Cairns, sister of Ihe bride, was bridesmaid, and Mr E. Christiansen best man. Mr and Mrs Cate left later for their future home in Palmerstou North. ■The marriage was solemnised at the Sacred Heart Church, Keefton, on Christmas Eve, of Miss Catherine Tobin, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs P. Tobin, of Keefton, to Mr Francis Slater, of' Koss. The Rev. Father Herring officiated. Misses Molly and Nelly Tobin, sisters of the bride, wcro if lie bridesmaids, while Messrs P. Tobin and J. Fisher were best man and groomsman respectively. Mr and Mrs Slater arc spending their honeymoon in ChTistchurch and Dunedin. Tho marriage of Miss May Clark, of Millerton, to Mr. Archie Dellaway, of Denniston, took place at Millerton today. Tho marriago was solemnised at St. Canico's Church, Westport, on Monday evening, of Miss Wilson, of Greymouth, to Mr E. Askenbeck, of the railway service, Waimangaroa. Miss L. Ryan and Mr J. Ryan attended as bridesmaid and best man respectively, and the Rev. Father Sweeney officiated. Hotel Changes. Mr IT. Mc.Luskic has purchased the lease of the Ferry Hotel, Kapahoe, and will enter* into possession early next month. It is reported that the Kokiri Hotel will also shortly change hands. Blackball Bridge. The last pile for the temporary Blackball railway bridge was driven this morning. The work of placing tho girders in position and laying the decking is proceeding, and it is hoped to have the bridge ready for traffic on January 4 th. Teremakau Settlers. The Prime Minister (tho Hon J. G. Coates) has written as follows to Mr T. E. Y. Scddon, M.P.: "I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of December 21st, in which you inform me that the settlers at Teremakau have been without telephonic communication since October last. I note that you, have been interviewed by a representative of the settlers with tho object of having communication restored, and I shall be glad to take up this matter with the Hon. the Postmaster-General immediately. I will write to you again in due course." Cycle Road Race. The cycle road race to Cronadun and back for Hayward Bros, and G. E. Hubbard's trophy was held at Keefton, and resulted as follows:—Coxall ], Hudson 2, Rcid 3. The first three were very close. The winner's time" was 40niin 46sec. In Bankruptcy.. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of James Robertson, hotelkeeper, of was held at tho i office of tho Deputy-Official Assignee this afternoon. The total liabilities wcro £751 83 2d, and the estimated, assets £591; secured creditors £376. The following creditors were present:Greymouth Brewery Co., Ltd. (Mr W. K. Xettle), Griffon and Smith, Ltd. (Mr A. Smith), P. J. Grogan and Co. (Mr J. Grogan). Mr W. J. Joyce appeared on behalf of bankrupt. The ■ DeputyOfficial Assignee stated that previous to filing, bankrupt has assigned his estate, and a number of bankrupt's assets were advertised for sale, but only one, a spring cart had been sold. Bankrupt attributed his position to continued ill-health and the inevitable losses sustained thereby. After considerable discussion it was resolved that the Deputy Official Assignee should confer with the two principal creditors, Messrs Grogan and Mandl, with a view to further investigating tfte position of the estate, and if necessary call a further meeting later.
The meeting then vras adjourned sine die.
