"During the last fortnight the country has rapidly assumed a burntup appearance, and pastures and crops are alike suffering severely from the drought. The outlook for the stock fattening season is far from cheerful, and cereal crops arc, generally speaking, more or less a failure. A very considerable area of rape and other fattening crops was sown, but practically no rain has fallen since sowing, and in some cases the seed has not even germinated; there is not a good paddock of rape in the district. Rain is verv urgently needed, as the position with regard to feed for stock will shortly be becoming acute , if the drought continues. PARNASSUS. At the breaking-up ceremony of tho Parnassus School there was a good attendance of parents. After a short concert,;given by the punils, the prizes were distributed by Mr T. H.
