A largo gathering of mothers witnessed the Christmas party giTen to tho infants at the Sumner District High" School. The room was prettily decorated with gav streamers. Under the control of Miss G. Wilson, the children contributed some well-acted nurserv rhymes and songs. The Mayoress, Mrs W. H. Nicholson, was'prescnt and the chairman. Mr G. A. The Banks Peninsula Racing Club's almost unbroken run of good luck, as far as weather is concerned, cont.nucd on Saturday, when tho club's Summor Meeting was held in glorious .sunshine at Motukarara. '■fcincc last meeting tho arand stand has been erected, an imnrovement that was greatly appreciated, especially by wouionl'olK. but in one respect at least the Motukarara people are too reticent and modest. Within a stone's throw of tho "i-and stand, and enclosed within tbo club's boundary fence, though hidden bv the trees, arc beautiful well-tended cardens that on Saturday were a riot of colour. CHRISTMAS PARTY. The Y.W.C.A. Club-rooms presented a gay scene on Saturday afternoon, when the Association members entertained one hundred and twenty litllo children at .1 Christmas parly. The smallest children played games in the Association garden, while the older ones had races and round games on Latimer square. Tea was served in the big clubroom, where the tables were bright with coloured fruits, flowers, and bonbons, and the keen enjoyment of the little ones amply repaid the hostesses for all their trouble. After tea, Father Christmas received all the guests in the games room, where a great pine treo, the gift of Mrs Geo. Blackmore, was laden with toys. Each child received two gifts, and very happy little girls bore home a Jiew doll, and proud boys marched off the possessors of a yacht in full sail. Father Christmas, as he bade the departing guests a Merry Christmas, gave each a bag of sweets. DIXIELAND. A very large gathering was present at Mxicland on Saturday night, when a most enjoyable evening was spent. The lounges and supper room were decorated with Christmas lilies, sweet peas, and coloured streamers, and the Dixieland Orchestra supplied the music. CHRIST'S COLLEGE.

It was fitting that tho distribution of prizes in connexion with Christ's College should, in this Anniversary Year, be held for the first timo within the stately walls of the fine Memorial Hall at the College. Parents and boys alike accorded an enthusiastic welcome to the Hon. W. Pember Beeves, whoso short earnest speeches, punctuated with touches of delightful humour, have given so much pleasuro and food for thought to Christchurch people within the last fortnight. A noteworthy point about the gathering of Saturday was tho splendid record made by A." K. Hancock, who received seven prizes, including one for divinity. It is seldom, indeed, that a bov excels in every department ,of study, but Hancock Jed in his form m English, science, Latin, French, mathematics, literature, and divinity—a brilliant performance. School dances arc generally jolly affairs, and Banks Commercial College end-of-term dance, which was held on Friday evening in the Masonic Hall, proved no exception. Under a canopy of orange streamers, with pendant baskets of flowers, the carnival spirit prevailed. The arrangements wero in tho hands of a capable committee, composed of Misses D. Haworth, E. Barrcll, M. McKenzie, M. Griffiths, M. Jory, and Bigg. Music was supplied by the Bristol Orchestra and Miss D. Haworth. A recitation which caused much amusement was given by Miss M. Bitchic. Later in the evening the gold medals for excellence in shorthand and in typewriting were presented to Misses F. Morgan and M. Jory, and the names of special prize-winners announced: Miss D. Haworth (100 per cent, accuracy shorthand), and Miss M. Griffiths (run-ner-up in shorthand and in typewriting). WELSH CHRISTMAS PARTY.

Tho third annual Christmas Tree | Party for the children of the Cam- j brian Society, was held in the Jellicoe Hall on Saturday night, when old and young entered into tho festiro spirit of the occasion, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Father Christmas welcomed all the children from tho stage, where he sat attended by a dear little • fairy and a court jester in cap and bells, and was surrounded by tho members of the corrimittees, the ladies wearing red cloaks. After marching round tho hall to tho strains £f the "March of the Men of Harlech" played by Miss Pollard, thev assembled round the trees for tho distribution af the presents. The tree- was beautitully decorated wth coloured balloons, and lit up with electric light. DoWs for the girls, books for the boys, China, ornaments, balls and woolly balls for tho babies wero given, and their parents and friends received lavender bags, bonbons eontainng nuts, cards and calendars. The children sat down to supper at long tableSj gay with red paper, red- buttons and scarlet geraniums, while the "grown-ups" danced. They had their supper in rei lavs afterwards, while the children I romped and played games. Ice-creams and lomonade were provided, and little bags of sweets. Two competitions caused much fan and laughter.

WEDDINGS. GORE—CRIDGE. A quiet but pretty wedding took Dlace at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Darfield. recently, when Ethel May, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. bridge, of Darfield was to Mr Frank Gore, of Otaki, North Island. The Rev. Mr Sparrow, of Malvern, officiated. . u • The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a champagne crepe de chine frock with plain bodice, and overekirt trimmed with silver lace, ami mauve crinoline hat with floral crown. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies. Two small nieces of the bride, Thelma Mantell and Nola Smith, acted as flower girls. Their, hats were of peach crinoline trimmed with flowers of autumn tints, aud streamers of tullo to tone fell from the under brim of tbo hats, forming dainty scarves, which were caught at the end with hand-made flowers. They carried shower bouquets, of delphiniums and cream roses, with ribbon and tulle to tone. The train-bearer, Miss Terczeta Cav-ana-zh. of Dunedin, cousin of the bridegroom, woro a pretty dress of pal© pink orcpo de chine, and Miss Colleen Murvjhv (niece) made a dainty little flower iiirl in a charming frock of pink crepe do chine and mob cap of silver and tulle. There was a large gathering of parents, friends, and ox-pupile. In the unavoidable absence of tho vicar, Mr Fitzgerald, Mr P. P. Peoples very kindly consented to dielribute the prizes. After tho. prize-giving the gifts off tho Christmas lico wero handed out by Father Christmas. Before leaving the hall tho children and friends sat down a delightful tea, provided by the mothers. The teacher thanked all those who by gifts of money, hooka, and toys had given the children such a happy time. The head teacher, the assistant, and the dancing mistress. Miss Bona Vaughan, received many beautiful gifts from the pupils.
