STELLA MURRAY.
FAREWELL RECITAL. A farewell recital -will be given in Christchurch by Miss Stella Murray next Thursday night. Miss Stella Murj-ay, who has had a most successful tour throughout the Dominion, iu leaving New Zealand for tho Old Country, where she intends to continue her concert career. Her visit has revealed her as an artistic, accomplished, and versatile singer. Describing her Wellington recital last Thursday night, the Wellington "Times" says: "Those who havo followed , the career cf Stella Murray would not have been surprised at. tho great reception given to her at the Town Hall last night; to those who knew little, if anything, shout her she earao as a glad surprise. Miss Murray -proved her possession of many natural and acquired gifts that account for her popularity here, and for tho position 6ho occupies in the concert world in London. She has a beautiful contralto voice, csneciallv in the lower and middle registers, and this has been most carefully and competently trained; she has a born gift of humour.'and this she has learned to use with restraint: she has .•» commanding stage presence, in which her Junocsquo figure serves her well; she has a .most agreeable manner and a wav of getting nt onae on friendly terms with her audience; amt she has an ■ intelligence that is not over-common among singers in the presentation of her songs, and conveying •what they mean in both words and musical settings." Harold Whittle, tha noted accompanist, is at the piano. Tho box plan will open at Tho Bristol to-day at 9 a.m.
