SLEEPLESSNESS.

: . TO THE EDITOR OT "THE PRESS." Sir,—ln answer to "Night-Shift," what I have to say may seem but little helpful, yet it helped me, so i pass it on. I know so well the misery of alert wakefulness, the impatience and correlation of mind and body, the keen longing for the oblivion as well as the restfulness of sleep. I am no great lover of theories, but it came to me in the night that if I could learn to rule that rebellious tossing to and fro, I might catch at the skirt of sleep, if I might not be right under her gracious robe. It was not easy, but by degrees I learned to lie still, not stiffly, but in a comfortable position ; if I moved, it was quietly, without impatience; T did Dot try to count sheep or indulge iu any other supposed sleep-inducing device; I did not think, consciously or connectedly, but just allowed things to drift over my mind —and the fuller ones mind is of any decent knowledge the better for ono in times of sleeplessness, as well as at other times. Though the wakefulness was not 'cured all at once, it was soothed greatly, in time, and bedtime ceased to be a time of torment. —Yours, etc., E.M.H. November 22nd. 1925.
