RANGIORA. Forty members of the local branch! of the Mothers' Union, accompanied by about twenty members of the Waikuku Branch, held their annual picnic at Hayland on Thursday. Fine weather prevailed, £iid an enjoyable time was spent. The monthly meeting of the Methodist Missionary Auxiliary was held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs T. Dennis presiding. Miss Oarr, the Dominion secretary, gave an address on missionary work aJid also a resume of the work done at the annual conference. During the afternoon mnsical items were given by Mrs T. J. Withers, Mrs N. A. Baillie, and Miss C'arr. After--1 noon tea was sorved. Mr J. M. Dawson, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, who is leaving Raneiora, was entertained at a social on Thursday evening by the members cf St. John's Choir, who presented him with a pocket wallet. KAEKOURA. Mr H. A. Young, S.M., was extended a formal welcome at the Court by Mr Raymond Gibson, on behalf- of the Bar, on the occasion of his first visit to Kaikoura. A hope was expressed that his visits would prove enjoyable and serviceable to the district. Mr James Davidson, on behalf of the Justices of the Peace, also welcomed his Worship. Mr Young thanked both for the kindly sentiments expressed. Mr Dahlj a retired bank official, from Melbourne, leaves to-day for Christchurch, nc route to the Southern Lakes. Warm weather continues, and a copious rain is much needed, as the land is parched. WEST EYRETON. The following will represent the Tennis Club against LoWn to-day: — Miss J. Dixon, Miss A. Dixon, Miss M. Addinell, Mrs Ward, Miss Burns, Miss S. Pester, Messrs J. W. Frizzell (captain), 11. Chapman, G. Smith, -A. Smith, L. Burns, and C. D. Blackinorc. AKAROA. At the last meeting of the directors! of the Akaxoa Butter Factory—Mr P. Cunningham presiding —it was decided to pay out Is 6d per lb for butter fat suuplied in September and Is 3d per. lb for October. Mr Felix Brochene <iavo notice to move at next meeting. "'That certain matters relating to the staff at the factory be discussed. ' At the last meeting of the Citizens Executive controlling the local Boy! Scouts, Mr Geo. Armstrong in the chair, a very satisfactory report as to the general progress of the troop was received from the Scoutmaster, Rev. A. C. Purchas. who stated that the following would comprise the patrol to attend the "jamboree" at the Dunedm Exhibition Assistant Scoutmaster Frank Williamson and Scouts Les Robinson, .Joe Marbey, Ira Petterson, Jack Bnokland, Innes Penlington, and Cliff Williams. The Government grant would defray expenses of transport from Akaroa to the railway at Little River and back, as a result of tlie concert and other special efforts, there were ample funds to meet the other costs incidental to the trip. TheScoutrmaster proposed to hold a ten days camp in one of the' Eastern. Bays for the benefit of the rest of the troop. It was decided to convene, towards the end of the year, a meeting of aill par- j ents interested in- the moo'exnent,— at . which proposals for extending the work' ■will be discussed. On the bowling green oil Thursday afternoon the club's silver badges again changed hands. The following was the scare: —A. H. Westenra, C. Petterson, W. W. Williams, S. W, Hayward (skip) 21; L. Brooherie, A. J. Clements, C. E. Johnstone, W. H. Buddie (skip) 15. It is interesting to note, again, thafc the lead in each rink in a member over 80 years of age. Earlier in the week A. R- Monro and W. H. Buddie played off to decide last season's championship, the former winning. Oji Thursday afternoon the Domain Tennis Club opened its season under pleasant conditions. TTie president (Mr Geo. Armstrong) formally declared the courts open for play and warmly commended the foreman of the Borough Council and his staff for tie excellent job they had made of enlarging and relaying the municipal court©. He felt) sure payers would appreciate the improvements. On the call of the oapfcain of the club, Mr H. Parris,- cheers were driven for the president- and for the Council staff. For the rest of the afternoon both courts "were busily occupied. Afternoon tea was provided.
