Simpson's offer of prizes -for. £ temperance essay. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Mrs J. Williams ; vice-presidents; Mesdames Johnson and Beaumont; secretary, Mrs J. Murdock; treasurer, Mrs R. Miller;, cradle roil, Mrs J. Brown; white ribbon, Mrs T. L, Corbet t. RAKAIA. A vory successful bazaar, in connexion with St. Mark's Church was held in the Town Hall on Thursday. •Tho stalls, which wero prettily decorated with coloured streamers and greenery, _,were well patronised by tho public during the afternoon and evening. / Excellent meals were supplied by cnergotic Committee of ladies, who J 'did a thriving (business. - The ice-cream, ( sweets, and toy stalk wero a source of attraction to the children until the supply- was- exhausted. • The stall-holders were:—Lundheon room, Mesdames G, Thompson, Breach, sell., J. McCoy, M. 1\ Cooke, A. Mead, Osborn, W. Laraman, Kaan, A. E. Mead, D. Turnbull, "and. a 'large number of assistants; North Hakaia stall, Mcsdames A. - Weaver, H. Wearer, and Mis 3 Weaver; Dorie stall, 'Mrs Kingsbury; produce stall, Mesdames T. Watts and A. Hurst; work stall, Mesdames McKegney, Baxter, and Evison; streets stall, Mesdames Cordner a net Hardy; • flowel' stall, Mesdames Black and F. Behrnes; toy stall, Mrs MoDougall, Misseß ltichai'Js and Clark; ice-oreams, Mrs Nelson, Misses E. Trevella and A. Thornpson; book stall, Messrs Ray, llapley, and J. Craig; games, Mr .It. Breach; sheep guessing, .Mr J. McCoy: ; The sheep' guissing competition,, which attracted considerable attention, was won by Mr A. Shellock, whose gueds was 451b Boz, the correct weight of the lamb being 4olb looz. At the close a small amount of produce, cakes, etc., was sold iby auction, and good prices were realised. Mr L. Cordner was the auctioneer. •> As a result of tho bazaar a considerable eum of money will be added to tha fupds of St. Mark's C/hurch. • A meeting of the committee of the Rakaia Athletic and Cycling Club was held on Thureday evening, Mr B. McNamara presiding. The Crouhds Commit teb reported that the track was in good order. All committee reports showed that arrangements were Well in hand for the sports. The secretary reported that the number of entries received constituted a .record.

Mr and Mrs J., gave a very successful party to celebrate the coming of age of their (laughter, Catherine. A large number of rouftp;-, people were present, and a very enjoyable evening was spent in music, songs, and dancing. Songs were given bv Misses N. MoCov, E. Douglas, and Mr C. Uddv. Mr Roy Tatfcerson, on behalf of the' company, congratulated Miss Douglas on having attainel her majority, and presented her -with a silver kev. those present singing/Tor She's a" Jolly Good Fellow." ~ TE PIRITA. A. largo gathering of friends and school children met recently at a Lousewarming to welcome home Mr and Mrs David Inch, who have returned from their wedding tour. The children of tho Te Pirita School presented Mr and Mrs Inch with a large bronze and glass rate. Mr Inch, on behalf of his wife and himself, thanked the childen for th&r gift, and expressed appreciation of tho kindly welcome from their neighiboura and friends. The remainder of tho evening was spent in dancing and competitions. . The winners-of competitions were:—Mrs J. H. Hulston, Mrs E. Duncan, Mr D. Inch,'and Mr E.. M. Duncan. 'Music was supplied bv Messrs Fagan and E. M. Duncan.
