NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.

Tldu. It will bo high tide on the beach this morning at 7.58, and in the river *at 9.23, and to-morrow at 8.55 ajn. and 10.21 a.m. Respectively. The Churches. The first services to be held in the new Anglican Church, "St. Faith's," the dedication of which takes place this afternoon, will be held to-morrow as follows: Holy Communion, 8 a.m.; Matins, 11 a.m.; Evensong, 7 p.m. The vicar will preach at the morning services, and the Tery Rev. the Dean of Christchurch in the evening. A special children's service will be held in the church at 2.30 p.m. The services at the Methodist Church to-morrow will lie conducted at 11 a.m. by the Rev. F. T. Head, at 6.30 p.m. by the Rev. S. Lawry. At the North Beach School (6.30 p.m.) by Mr Kent, and in the Bridge street Hall (6.30 p.m.) by the Mission Band. Croquet Club. The local Croquet Club was favoured with ideal weather for the opening of the season. The new pavilion was much admired btf- the members. The Mayor (Mr J. Gamble), who performed the opening ceremony, welcomed the visitors, who included Mr S. McCullough, secretary of the Canterbury Croquet Association, and Mr C. J. F. ltoss, president. He had a feeling that the club's lawn was in the wrong place, and he hoped prior to next season's play to have the playing green shifted to a more convenient and, sheltered position. He concluded by wishing the members a very successful season. The first ball was played by Mrs Gamble. Afternoon tea was dispensed. Eorosford Club. The second annual meeting of the Beresford Club wap held on Thursday, Mr W. Nuttall being in the chair. The president congratulated the club upon its rapid growth, the membership now standing at 85. If members displayed the same amount of energy during the next two years, the membership would warrant the club taking steps towards the purchase of a piece of land upon which to erect clubrooms. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, the latter showing the assets to be in excess of liabilities by £S2 Is 4(1. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr J. C. Scott; president, Mr W. Nuttall; vice-president, Mr W. J. McKenzie; management committee, Messrs Yarrall, Burgess, Frost, Morton, and Bix; trustees, Messrs Bisman and Adams; entertainment committee, Messrs Tillyshort, A. Stokes, Evans, Morton, and Cockle; hon. treasurer, Mr J. Poocock; hon. secretary, Mr N. H. Bra ding. The chairman announced that the annual smoke concert would be held next J week. The matter of holding a picnic on Boxing Day was referred to the incoming committee. I The secretary was unanimously voted an honorarium of £5 ss. 8.A.0.8. At the meeting of the local Lodge of the 8.A.0.8. (4045, G.E.L.), C.P. Bro. C. Cooper presided. Matters wore further dealt with in connexion with the formation of a cricket eleven. Knight Nicholson offered- a bat for the best bowling average, Knight Neate a bat for the best batting average, and Bro. A. Briggs a cricket outfit complete. A vote of thanks was passed to tho respective donors. It was agreed to hold the annual dinner of the Lodge in. December. The opening cricket match is being played against Merivale this afternoon. Personal. At the meeting of tho Works Committee of the Borough Council on Thursday the Mayor (Mr J. Gamble), on behalf of tho Council, presented tho borough foreman, Mr J. Wilson, on the occasion of his forthcoming .marriage, with a handsome salad bowl, a set of stainless knives and forks, and a pickle jar. Cricket Club. Against Macky, Logan's to-day, at Linwood Park, the third grade team will be J. Bctteridgo,, A. E. Cockle, H. P. Hopkins, J. Cockle, J. Dooley, J. Duncan, G. Iggo, R. P. Hopkins, C. Phillpott, F. Wedd, E. Wvlie.
