SUMNER ITEMS.
Benefit Concert. Thero was a large attendance in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, when a concert was given for Mr Nicholls, of Redcliffs, who is in danger of losing liia eyesight, with the object of enabling him to procure beneficial treatment. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Nicholson) thanked those present for their attendance, and moved a vote of thanks to the performers, which was carried. The programme, which was a lengthy one and most enjoyable, contained the following items: —Orchestral selection, Bennett's Orchestra; pianoforte eolo, Miss D. 'Wicks; recitation, Miss Daphne Henry;' solo, Mr Cliye Hindle; instrumental trio, the Woodward Trio; recitation. Miss Hazel Shier; solo, Miss G. Harris; recitation, Master Konald Fostcr; recitation, Mr IT, Xustoncj solOj.l with instrumental obbligato, Mr Woodward; recitation, Miss J. Murchie; duet, Misses Wright; recitation, Misß Enid English; solo, Miss Audrey Thompson; solo, Mr Eric Gray. j Life-Saving. Mr J. 0. McDonald presided over a meeting of the Sumner Life-Saving Club on Thursday evening. It was decided to hold the club races on opening day. Final arrangements were made with regard to the variety, cake, produce, ice cream, and sweets stalls, and afternoon tea. Concert. An excellent concert was given in the Town Hall on Thursday evening in aid of the funds of the bumner Marine Band. Tho programme was one of the best presented in the borough for a long time, the items contributed by the band and its soloists being particularly well received. The following assisted: Miss !M. Nelson, Mr R. Clark, Rev Clyde Carr, Master "\V. G. Crisp, Mr L. Cookson, Mr R. Allison, Mrs H. G. Reeves, Mr D. Colville, Miss Nancy Foster, Mr "W vfoll, Mr T. H. Amos, Mr G. W. Russell, and Master Eric Williams. Mr M. Prebble was conductor for the concerted itpms, and Mrs H. W. Heslop accompanist. Facilities for Baching. This week a meeting of delegates was held to consider a scheme for providing adequate dressing sheds and sun-bath-ing enclosures at the back of tho present life-saving pavilion. It was agreed that Mr Ager and Mr Jamiespn, with Mr G. Harper, be asked to a, rough sketch plan and estimatea cost of bathing facilities for both ladies and gentlemen, and that the same gentlomcn submit as an alternative Bchemo a rough sketch of separate bathing shelters about twice the size of tho present enclosures, with stone base and wood superstructure, together with estimated cost, •
